Activities of Student Organizations in MLQU: Promoting Engagement, Learning, and Camaraderie

Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) is known for its vibrant students’ organizations that strive to enhance the overall student experience, foster personal and professional growth, and promote a sense of community within the university.  These organizations organize a wide range of activities, events, and initiatives that cater to the diverse interests and needs of MLQU students.  Let’s take a closer look at some of the notable activities conducted by various student organizations in MLQU.

MLQU Central Student Government: Consumer Youth Forum

On March 30, 2023, the MLQU Central Student Government organized the Consumer Youth Forum held at the lounge of the Victoria Sports Tower. The primary objective of this event was to promote consumer rights among MLQU student. It brought together MLQU law students, central student government officers, law professors, administrators, and esteemed guests such as US Ambassador Marykay Loss Carlson, DTI officials, and representatives from The Asia Foundation.  The forum provided a platform for students to engage in discussions and gain insights into consumer protection and their rights as consumers.

MLQU Central Student Government: Technical Writing Workshop

The MLQU Central Student Government, in collaboration with MLQU undergraduate students, faculty, and administrators, organized a Technical Writing Workshop on April 28, 2023, at Melbourne Victoria Sports Tower.  The workshop aimed to equip students with skills to convey complex information effectively, simplify difficult concepts, and enhance their writing abilities.  Guest speaker, Dr. Jaime G. Ang, shared valuable insights and practical tips to help students master the art of technical writing.

MLQU Central Student Government:  How to Write a Good Resume Seminar

To empower graduating students with the knowledge and skills necessary to craft compelling resumes, the MLQU Central Student Government conducted a seminar entitled “How to Write a Good Resume” on June 9, 2023.  The event, held at Melbourne, Victoria Sports Tower, targeted all MLQU graduating students. Dr. Mario Glenn A. Isic provided expert guidance on resume writing, emphasizing the significance of well-crafted  resume in showcasing one’s qualifications and securing employment opportunities.

MLQU Central Student Government: Graduation Dinner

As culmination of the MLQU 2022-2023 academic year, a graduation dinner was organized on June 24, 2023, at Melbourne, Victoria Sports Tower.  The event aimed to celebrate the accomplishments of the MLQU graduating students and strengthen their bond with fellow graduates, faculty, administrators, and the MLQU Central Student Government officers.  It served as a joyous occasion to mark the end of an educational journey and the beginning of the new chapter in their lives.

MLQU School of Business:  AdulthingZ — Emerging Adulthood

The MLQU School of Business organized AdulthingZ, a university-wide event held on October 10, 2022.  The event took place at the 2nd Floor Lobby of Victoria Sports Tower and featured a conversation with guest speakers on applying financial management skills to overcome daily financial challenges.  The event aimed to enhance students’ financial literacy, encourage active participation in school activities, and assist freshman students and transferees in adjusting to the MLQU learning environment.  The guest speakers, including Ms. Jenny Pahilanga, Atty. Barry Aquino, Mr. Mark Angelo Roma, and Mr. Dave Bondoc, provided valuable insights and guidance on managing personal finances effectively.

MLQU School of Business: Welcome Party – PAGMAYA sa Panibagong Yugto

To foster a sense of belongingness and camaraderie among students, the MLQU School of Business organized the Welcome Party: PAGMAYA sa Panibagong Yugto on February 20, 2023.  The event, held at the campus’ covered court, aimed to provide students, both new and old, with an opportunity to mingle, build new friendships, and unwind from the demands of college life. Additionally, the event celebrated the 75th Founding Anniversary of MLQU, allowing the students to reflect on the university’s rich history and achievements. Guest artist, Mr. Jelu Sarilla added entertainment to the afternoon event.

Legal Management Society: General Assembly- UPSIDE DOWN

The Legal Management Society organized a General Assembly entitled UPSIDE DOWN on August 15, 2022. The event took place at Melbourne, Victoria Sports Tower and served as a platform for old and new officers and members of the organization to gather, plan activities for the academic year, and conduct mass recruitment.  The assembly aimed to ensure continuity and effectiveness in the organization’s operations while providing an inclusive and  engaging environment for legal management students.

Legal Management Society: SPEAK OUT — Panel Discussion about the Condition of the Press

On November 28, 2022, the Legal Management Society hosted a panel discussion entitled “SPEAK OUT” at the 2nd Floor Lobby of Victoria Sports Tower.  The discussion revolved around the condition of the press in the country and sought to raise awareness and stimulate meaningful conversation on this important topic.  Legal Management Society officers, members, and partner students from various universities and organizations participated in this event.  Guest speakers, including Atty. Khrisna P. Sunico, Mr. Paul Nicholas Soriano, and Ms. Shaira Lynne Titong, shared their insights and expertise, fostering a deeper understanding of press-related issues.

Webinar Events:  Collaboration with Other Universities and Organizations

MLQU students’ organizations actively engaged in collaborative efforts with other universities and organizations to organize webinar events.  These webinars covered a variety of topics related to law, legal writing, and the study and practice of law.  Notable events included “ABOGADO PARA SA BAYAN: The ideals and Realities of the Study and Practice of Law” in partnership with UP Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity; FUTURE AVOCADOS: The Law School Forum” in collaboration with the University of Sto. Tomas; “LEXON: A Guide to Legal Writing” organized by Letran University; “PLATA O PORMA” conducted by Junior Bedan Law Circle; and “Breakthrough: Legal Management Debate Cup” organized by Letran University.

Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – MLQU Chapter: General Assembly – Groundwork

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) – MLQU Chapter conducted a General Assembly dubbed “Groundwork” on December 3, 2022, at Melbourne, Victoria Sports Tower.  This assembly aimed to bring together officers and members of the organization as well as MLQU engineering students, to plan events and activities for the academic year.  It also provided an avenue for collaborative discussions and exchange of ideas among departmental Local Council Officers from the School of Business, Criminal Justice and Architecture.

KAPISANAN ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan:  Kapisanan Orientation

The KAPISANAN ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan organized an orientation event on August 5, 2022, at Melbourne, Victoria Sports Tower.  This face-to-face event brought together officers and new members of the organization, along with departmental Local Council Officers from the Schools of Business, Criminal Justice, Engineering and Architecture. The orientation aimed to familiarize new members with the organization’s values, goals, and initiatives, fostering a sense of community and providing a platform for engagement and collaboration.

The activities organized by student organizations in MLQU showcase their commitment to enhancing students’ educational experience, promoting camaraderie, and facilitating personal and professional development.  Through their diverse events and initiatives, these organizations play a vital role in creating a vibrant and inclusive campus environment in MLQU
